Zone Information

Understanding the 10 Safari Zones

Ranthambore is divided into 10 forest zones, each with its own terrain, flora and wildlife density.

Zones 1 – 5 (Core)

The original core zones around Padam Talao and Ranthambore Fort — highest tiger sighting probability.

Zones 6 – 8 (Buffer)

Includes Kachida valley and the scenic Jogi Mahal lake area — popular for leopards and crocodiles.

Zones 9 – 10 (Extended)

The buffer expansion zones — ideal in monsoon season when core zones are closed, dense forest trails.

Weekly Closures

Zones 1–5 close every Wednesday. Zones 6–10 close every Tuesday for conservation.

Monsoon Zones

During July, August & September only Zones 6–10 are open. Booking is still available for these dates.

Zone Allocation

You choose zone group 1–7 or 8–10 at booking. Final zone within the group is assigned by the forest department.

Safari Etiquette

Important Rules to Know Before You Go

The forest department enforces strict regulations to protect wildlife and ensure visitor safety.

Carry the original ID proof used during booking. Entry is denied without it.

Arrive at the entry gate at least 30 minutes before your safari time.

Maintain complete silence inside the park. Horn blowing, shouting, and radios are strictly prohibited.

Do not exit the vehicle at any point during the safari. Always follow guide instructions.

Pets, plastic bags, and single-use plastics are not permitted inside the reserve.

Permits are non-refundable and non-transferable once the safari is confirmed.

Safari is conducted in designated zones only. Off-route driving is not permitted.

Photography is allowed for personal use. Drone photography is strictly prohibited inside the park.

Do not litter, feed animals, or pluck any plants. Keep the forest pristine for wildlife.

You choose zone group 1–7 or 8–10. The exact zone within that group is allocated by the Forest Department's automated system on the day and cannot be guaranteed in advance.

Indian nationals: Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, PAN Card, or Driving License. Foreign nationals: Passport only. You must carry the original ID used at the time of booking — photocopies are not accepted at the gate.

Yes. Children below 5 years travel free on a Gypsy without occupying a seat. Children 5 and above require a paid seat. All children must still follow all safari rules and are included in the headcount.
